Mentor Program

The Rice Alliance – Austin Chapter Mentor Program supports entrepreneurial startups in the Austin area by holding Startup Mentoring Workshops on a regular basis. Each workshop includes instruction in areas of fund raising, finance, management and marketing to any interested individual. Additional business plan guidance is provided to selected startups in a private hands on session by a group of individuals experienced in the areas of Finance, Law, Technical, Management and Marketing. In addition to the annual workshop, startups can apply for private business plan critiques at any time during the year.

Why is our Mentor Program unique?

Our goal is to assist entrepreneurs in their pursuit of technology and business endeavors, providing them with needed expertise and support. We bring together experienced Mentors with startups needing assistance in an informal and private setting. We have an experienced group of individuals eager to share their expertise and experience with you.

Who can benefit from the Mentor Program?

The Rice Alliance – Austin Chapter is soliciting emerging startups interested in receiving a business plan review by selected Mentors. Any startup entity desiring help is invited to apply with the Rice Alliance – Austin Chapter. To apply for the Startup Mentoring Workshop, reply to . Who will review my business plan?

The Mentor Program will provide a group of individuals (Mentors) with specific knowledge and experience in all areas of business startup to review and critique the startup’s business plan.

How does the Business Plan Review take place?

The business plan review is a private, informal session with only the startup entity and selected Mentors present.

What are the requirements for startups?

We desire that you have a cohesive and well thought out business plan. You should be confident your plan is worthy of consideration by experienced individuals.

Who are the Mentors?

Mentors are individuals from the Austin area with expertise in the areas of fund-raising, finance, law, technology, management and marketing.

How do I become a Mentor?

At a minimum, specific skills in one of the areas of Finance, Law, Technology, Management and Marketing is required. Direct experience related to startups or emerging businesses is advantageous and a successful track record in writing and/or successfully executing business plans will be very helpful.

If you feel you have expertise in one of the above areas and are interested in participating, we invite you to register with the Rice Alliance – Austin Chapter as a potential Mentor. To register as a Mentor, reply to . Please include name, contact information, education, and professional relationships and summarize your expertise and the area in which you desire to contribute.

The Steering Committee of the Rice Alliance – Austin Chapter will evaluate all registrants and select a pool of individuals in each skill area. Individuals from this group will be called upon to participate in business plan reviews on an as needed basis depending upon schedule and potential needs of specific startups.

Mentor and Startup Responsibilities

Each Mentor and Startup participant will be asked to review the Rice Alliance - Austin Chapter Mentor Program Guidelines.
